Do you have a bucket list — a collection of experiences you want to have at least once in your life? I keep a running list and have crossed off several items over the years. I believe everyone benefits from a bucket list: it clarifies goals, sparks plans, and keeps life interesting.
My Foodie Bucket List
My full bucket list includes non-food adventures, but here I’ll focus on culinary and baking experiences. The items below are in no particular order.
- Explore the Bangkok Train Market and sample street food stalls.
- Try a cronut, the croissant-doughnut hybrid.
- Transform a packaged mix into something unexpected and delicious.
- Bake bagels from scratch, with a chewy interior and glossy crust.
- Make Zaanse Kermis cookies, a traditional Dutch treat.
- Eat authentic pizza in Italy, enjoying regional styles and fresh ingredients.
- Create olive oil ice cream to highlight fruity, peppery oil flavors.
- Enjoy an elaborate picnic in a scenic park.
- Eat at a chef’s table to experience a curated, behind-the-scenes meal.
- Have lunch with the Pioneer Woman.
- Write a book filled with delicious baking recipes.
- Grab a meal from a food truck in Los Angeles and taste creative street cuisine.
- Bake something from every country in the world as part of my Baking Around the World challenge.
- Dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant to experience high-level culinary artistry.
- Visit a dedicated vegan restaurant and sample thoughtful plant-based dishes.
- Go sugar-free with my baking for a full month to explore alternatives and techniques.
- Attend a food blogger event to connect with others who love food and writing.
- Visit La Cité, the wine-themed attraction near Bordeaux, France.
- Have a full English breakfast in England, complete with all the classics.
- Work with matcha in a recipe that highlights its earthy green tea flavor.
- Eat a hot dog at a baseball game, enjoying the classic stadium experience.
- Bake a traditional Dutch Christmas bread (kerststol) with rich dried fruits and almond paste.
- Make churros and serve them with rich chocolate for dipping.
- Dine at an “eat in the dark” restaurant to heighten the senses and appreciate flavor without sight.
- Try live blogging from an event or create a live video on platforms like Periscope, Blab, or Facebook Live.
These 25 items are just a portion of what I hope to accomplish. I’ll share updates as I check things off the list and write about the experiences here.
