The perfect homemade gift
This peppermint chapstick is a go-to winter project that’s ideal for gifting. Make several at once so you have extras for friends, teachers, and family. They’re small, thoughtful present items that people enjoy receiving during the holidays.
In my home it’s a tradition to make a few batches every winter. I often keep a small bowl of them out when guests visit so people can take one home. They also make a cheerful stocking stuffer or part of a small care package.

The combination of cooling peppermint and nourishing beeswax is pleasantly soothing. For a small gift set, pair this balm with a homemade peppermint lip scrub or other peppermint-scented items.
Ingredients
You only need a few common supplies to make this balm. Here’s what to have on hand:
- 1 oz beeswax – A stable, protective base that helps lock in moisture.
- 3 heaping tablespoons coconut oil – Deeply moisturizing and supports a smooth texture.
- 10–15 drops peppermint essential oil – Provides scent and a mild cooling tingle; add cautiously and adjust to your preference.
- Containers – Small tins or lip balm tubes work well for storing the finished balm.

How to make peppermint lip balm
This balm is straightforward to prepare and easy to scale up for larger batches.
1. Place the beeswax and coconut oil in a small saucepan. Heat gently over low heat, stirring occasionally until both ingredients are fully melted and combined.

2. Transfer the melted mixture into a heatproof pouring container with a spout for easier filling.

3. Add 10–15 drops of peppermint essential oil and stir to combine. Ten drops gives a mild scent and slight tingle; increase by up to five drops if you prefer a stronger peppermint sensation. Use caution—peppermint oil is potent and should be diluted properly.

4. Pour the mixture into your containers and allow it to cool and solidify. If you’re nervous about spilling, small glass droppers or a funnel help, but careful pouring usually works fine.
5. Once set, cap the containers and label or decorate as desired. A simple ribbon or small peppermint candy tied to the container makes a charming finishing touch for gifts.

I like to make extras for teachers, friends, and neighbors—and of course to keep a couple in my own purse.
