Forget about calories this Valentine’s Day and enjoy perfect moments with your partner while making heart-shaped waffles filled with nougat cream.

There are countless recipes for extra-soft waffles, but this one comes from my best friend who surprised her loved one with it. The key is getting the flour measurement right — when the balance of wet and dry ingredients is correct, the waffles turn out soft and tender. For convenience, you may use a quality waffle mix if you prefer. These waffles are lightly sweet, and paired with nougat cream and a heart shape they become a charming Valentine’s treat. Add fresh berries, a drizzle of maple syrup or honey, or any decorative touches you like. They also stay fresh for several days, making them great for quick breakfasts or snacks. Since I learned this recipe, I make it often and my children enjoy it in many different combinations. I hope you love these waffles with nougat cream as much as we do — they’re ideal for Valentine’s Day.

Using a waffle maker makes the process quick and easy. A good recipe is the most important factor. I use a heart-shaped waffle iron for a festive touch, but any waffle maker will work — simply cut the cooked waffles into hearts if needed. Spend time together in the kitchen and make Valentine’s Day about shared moments and simple, delicious food.
