Revival St. Paul
For years this part of town lacked true barbecue—until Thomas Boemer and Nick Rancone opened the St. Paul location of Revival and added classic smoked meats to the menu, honoring Boemer’s Southern roots. The fried chicken and the burgers alone draw steady lines of people craving Southern comfort, but it’s the barbecue that has become my latest obsession.
Revival easily ranks among the top barbecue spots in the country in my view. Their menu features house-made hot links, smoked pork belly, dry-rubbed ribs, and a burnt-end chili crowned with cornbread croutons—each dish consistently excellent. One standout is their smoked pastrami brisket: a beautifully developed bark seasoned with black pepper and whole coriander seeds. As someone who grew up in New York, I can say it’s one of the finest preparations of smoked pastrami I’ve tasted.
Everything pairs well with their homemade barbecue sauces and thoughtful sides, and finishing a meal with a slice of pie only adds to the experience. Whether you’re after fried chicken, classic sandwiches, or serious smoked meats, Revival St. Paul delivers flavorful, well-executed comfort food.
