One World Brewing: Craft Beer from Around the Globe

One World Brewing is a standout brewery in downtown Asheville. It offers a well-curated selection of craft beers in a relaxed, welcoming setting that invites lingering and conversation.

Downtown Asheville Breweries

We visited Asheville mainly to explore the local breweries. With cold, rainy weather keeping us from hiking, beer-focused walking tours felt like the perfect plan. From our hotel we walked to several nearby favorites, including Wicked Weed Brewing, Burial Beer, and Green Man Brewing. One World Brewing and Lexington Avenue Brewing were also within walking distance, though a bit further and heading the opposite direction. We planned to visit both along with East Fork Pottery. Since our trip, Lexington Avenue Brewery has closed after being acquired by another company.

Vibe at One World Brewing

One World Brewing sits down a small alley and below street level, accessed by a short flight of stairs. The space has a nostalgic, slightly underground feel—darkened interior, concrete floors, eclectic decor, and brewery equipment visible along one wall. Stickers and posters add to the casual, lived-in character. A bar occupies one end of the room and a few tables are arranged beside the brewing tanks. Staff greeted us promptly and handed over the beer list.

Beer Menu at One World Brewing

When we visited there were nine beers on tap plus a cider, spanning IPAs, stouts, porters, and ales. We chose a varied mix to sample: The Brett & Butter, My Gourd! (a seasonal porter), Citra-Bomb IPA, The Dank Imperial IPA, and an Imperial Milk Stout. The menu showed the creative side of the taplist, with both classic styles and inventive seasonal offerings.

Beer Flight at One World Brewing

The flight arrived in small ceramic mugs that felt more generous than typical tasters. Each beer delivered something distinct. The Dank Imperial IPA was a highlight—boldly hoppy with plenty of resinous character and a substantial ABV of 9.1%. Citra-Bomb IPA offered bright citrus notes and a more moderate 6.8% ABV, making it an easier-drinking option after the heavier imperial. The Imperial Milk Stout was rich and velvety; I appreciated that it included cocoa nibs sourced from the French Broad Chocolate lounge, giving it a pronounced chocolate nuance at 7.1% ABV. My Gourd! was a memorable seasonal porter, brewed with roasted butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and cocoa nibs—an imaginative fall-style brew with a 6.3% ABV. The Brett & Butter was enjoyable, though it wasn’t my favorite of the flight.

Part of the appeal of craft breweries is that their offerings change frequently, which encourages repeat visits. We plan to return to One World Brewing to try more of their rotating selection. At the time of checking their taplist, examples of recent names included Hempin Ain’t Easy, Saison of Love, Soft Opening, Pick Yourself Up and Chai Again, We Belong in the Frontier, Single SIPA, Forever Zedoray, Old Town Amber, and Pour Yourself a Cup of Ambition—creative titles that reflect the playful, experimental approach of the brewery.

In short, One World Brewing delivers a fun, casual atmosphere with a diverse and thoughtfully brewed taplist. It’s a solid stop in downtown Asheville for anyone who enjoys flavorful, well-made craft beer and a relaxed neighborhood vibe.
